Having a framework for solving problems is essential because it provides structure, consistency, and efficiency in tackling challenges. A math problem-solving framework is beneficial because it provides a structured approach to tackling complex problems, allowing individuals to systematically analyze information, identify relevant strategies, and execute steps logically, ultimately leading to a better understanding of the problem and a higher chance of finding a correct solution, especially when encountering unfamiliar or challenging math questions.
Here is a Problem Solving Framework I used with my students before they began working on any Core Performance Assessment. This PSF coincides with "The House of Rectangles" task from my Core Performance "It's in the Design."
